Martin O'Halloran

Dr. Martin O’Halloran is Director of the Translational Medical Device Lab, the first medical device lab in Ireland embedded in a regional hospital and co-located with a clinical research facility (HRB), non-executive Director at BioInnovate, CURAM investigator and Senior Lecturer in Medical Electronics. He also has a M.Ed. in Academic Practice from National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG), where the focus of his thesis was research supervision and assessment, and he completed a MSc. in Clinical Research at NUIG in 2015, to better understand the clinical evaluation process. With over 30 national and international research awards, he was awarded SFI EC Researcher of the Year and IMDA Best Contribution to MedTech (BioInnovate) in 2016, Engineers Ireland's Chartered Engineer of the Year 2014, and Irish Research Council’s Researcher of the Year 2017 for his work on medical device development. Since 2011, he has secured over €6.5 million in direct research and commercialization funding, and is technical-lead in two start-up medical device companies (Kite Medical and Varix). He has over 80 peer reviewed publications.
