Task 7 - Imaging algorithms for medical diagnosis devices

KCL , supervisor Dr. P. Kosmas, ESR O. Karadima.

This Task is devoted to the implementation and testing of imaging algorithms for medical diagnosis devices. The algorithms will be based on microwave imaging algorithms jointly developed by KCL and MEDIWISE that will be adapted to hardware systems developed in WP4 (ESR9 and ESR10). The imaging algorithms will be validated first using accurate numerical simulations (Task 3.1, ESR6), and then incorporated into the medical diagnostic devices realized in WP4 and validated with the experimental phantoms realized in Task 1.1 (ESR1). Finally, the imaging algorithms will be refined to optimize their performance for experimental data and hardware accelerated (Task 2.1, ESR3). Industrial partner MEDIWISE will be a major player in this task, while the clinical partner organization UP7 will be involved in the definition of the requirements for the developed imaging algorithms.

Objectives:

  • Incorporation of computationally efficient 3-D imaging algorithms into medical diagnostic devices (in strong collaboration with MEDIWISE)
  • Adapt the in-house microwave imaging (MWI) algorithms to the hardware systems developed in WP4 (first, using accurate numerical simulations)
  • Incorporate hardware improvements developed within Task 2.1
  • Validate the imaging algorithms with the experimental phantoms realized in task 1.1
  • Refine the imaging algorithms to optimize performance for experimental data

Expected Results:

  • State-of-the art 3-D microwave imaging algorithms
  • Validation with experimental data for specific prototypes and testbeds (phantoms)
