Task 13 - EM device for imaged guided microwave ablation

CNR-IREA , supervisor Dr. L. Crocco, ESR M. Wang.

Sapienza University of Rome , supervisor M. Cavagnaro

The task aims at the design and realization of a device for non-invasive monitoring of ablation treatments, The prototype will be equipped with robust and real-time capable algorithms for remote temperature monitoring, developed in collaboration with ESR8 (Task 3.3). Experiments for imaging tissue variations with temperature (ex-vivo and with phantoms) will be performed in collaboration with partners UNIROMA1 and ENEA. UNIROMA1 will host the PhD training of ESR13. The whole activity in close collaboration with the clinical partner HADUMC.

Objectives:

  • Design of a device for non-invasive monitoring of ablation treatments
  • Implementation of concept  and evaluation of robust and real-time capable signal processing algorithms for remote tissue temperature monitoring
  • Experiments for imaging of tissue variations with temperature (ex-vivo and with phantoms) in collaboration with UNIROMA1 and ENEA
  • Experimental assessment of relationship between temperature and tissue properties variations

Expected Results:

  • Realization of a MWI device to monitor microwave ablation treatments
  • Ex-vivo experiments in controlled conditions
